The holidays can sometimes difficult and stressful, running here and there, preparing for out of town guest.  The thoughts of these tasks can interrupt your sleep. Now just think how that lack of sleep can affect your emotional wellness during the holidays.

If you struggle with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), you may feel more tired than usual, especially when it comes to keep up with all those holiday activities. Here are a few tips that will help you through the holidays.

Plan for Travel – if you know you are traveling to a different time zone, plan your rest according to the new time zone.  Make time for rest when you arrive or if you are one of those who can sleep on a plane, don’t forget to bring that comfy pillow.

Rest up – If you plan on driving to your destination this holiday, get plenty of rest the day before. This will help prevent drowsy driving.  If feeling tired, stop breaks or change drivers.  It is crucial for your safety and other drivers’ safety that you are well rested before hitting the road.

Recreate Your Optimal Sleep Conditions – Where ever you are traveling to try to recreate your sleep environment. If you have a favorite pillow or use a sleep machine brings those with you to stick closely to your sleep habits and have a restful night’s sleep wherever you are staying.

Don’t Forget Your Oral Appliance– Oral appliances are small and easy to travel with. They fit easily in your bag and don’t require electricity or tubes. Also, this way you don’t have to stop your therapy over the holidays.

Everyone needs a good night’s sleep, particularly during the holidays. So, if you feel that you suffer from excessive snoring, call or visit your sleep apena dentist and discuss snoring solutions that will suit your situation.  Or if you find you are not liking your CPAP, there are other more comfortable alternatives such as oral appliances. Wishing you Happy Holidays and Restful Nights.
