How It Began…

It Starts Here…

Some 12 years ago, Dr. Barry Chase of New York, sold his thriving traditional dental practice to focus exclusively on his passion, Dental Sleep Medicine. Today in 12 locations in the NYC area, Barry has an axiom of treatment that has been a formula for success. “I explain to patients that it is not about bringing their lower jaw forward as much as it is about allowing the tongue to come forward”. This paradigm shift in “how” we look at the problem is well supported by the latest developments in device design and manufacturing such as ProSomnus® Sleep Technologies. “The increased tongue space that we get from the lower lingual profile is significant. I have seen a huge reduction in the range of my starting position, from 70% to 50% of the range using a George Gauge with the ProSomnus [CA] Sleep Device. The 900 Posts hold the mandible in that position, so I also found that I do not need the elastics and hooks that were common with other manufacturers.”

Did Someone Say Sleep?

Dr. Chase began his sleep journey in the 1970’s while at Sloan Kettering in the Head and Neck department. They knew that during the reconstructive process for the patient, the airway had to be protected. After studying TMD and Craniofacial Pain with Harold Gelb, he found the down and forward position of most appliances they made not only helped the patient’s acute symptoms, but they also reported less snoring and better sleep. “Minimizing and managing side effects is so important. Every physician is concerned about this. With the engineered symmetry, smaller profile and less protrusion, we simply are not seeing the complaints we used to.” He tells patients, if he positions their mandible so that the tongue can come forward, the brain, heart and body will begin to heal itself.

Dr. Chase has worked with many oral applications that will help improve patients suffering from OSA, snoring and other sleep disorders.  Call for your free consultation today and let Dr. Chase evaluate which device may be best for your situation.
